- Services for William E. “Bill” Monk, 84, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Palestine City Cemetery with Chaplain Don Stanaland officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Monk died at his home in Palestine on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014.
He was born May 12, 1929 in Navasota, Texas, a son of Joseph Thomas Monk and Lois Elizabeth Cory Monk.
He graduated from Palestine High School in 1946. He played football for Palestine High School and received a football scholarship to TCU. During his youth, he sang for many local weddings and had a local musical radio show.
He moved from Palestine to Kilgore for work and then to Arlington to work for Pritchard & Abbott. Mr. Monk then retired back to Palestine in 1994 where he served his community on the local water board and appraisal district.
Mr. Monk was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife. Wanda Stafford Monk; daughter, Georgia Carol Singleton; grandchildren, Leah Olivares and Benton Olivares; and brother, Joseph Harris Monk and wife Marcilee Wilkinson Monk.
