  • Notes 
    • Became justice of Peace in the Rural Shade area. Later Post Master of Rural Shade from 1861 to 1867, except for parts of 1863, 1864, & 1865 in which he first enlisted in the Navarro County rifles, 19th brigade of the CSA and was sworn in as a Staff Sergeant with the duties of an Appraiser at Camp Murrah, Freestone County. In Nov of 1863 he was made a full First Lieutenant and given Command of "L" Troop. He was stationed in Galveston, TX. On Jan 30, 1864, he was paid $100.00 in confederate money as he commissioned officer salary for the year. See Navarro County Leaves & Branches Oct 1999 pg 14 for family history.
