Notes - George was a pioneer settler of Madison County, AL. The following article, which appeared in the "Huntsville (AL) Advocate", on June 16, 1877, explains this: "History continued - The first settlement made where New Market now stands was that of two brothers, George and Jacob Broiles. They came to this country in 1806 and selected that spot for their home. First employed themselves in deadening timber and clearing land and in the course of a year or two had a pretty little farm. Settlers came in rapidly and other industries than farming were demanded. George Broiles built the first blacksmith shop in that part of what is now Madison Co. In 1808 the first tan yard in the county or state was begun by one Trump in the vicinity of Broiles' Farm..."
