| 4948 | SHREVEPORT, LA – A Celebration of Life service for David Ford Lewis, Sr., 79, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Brookwood Baptist Church in Shreveport. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. Rev. John Harp and Rev. Will Simmons will be officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home. David was born May 30, 1937 in Houma, Louisiana to Rupert and Maudie Lewis and he went to be with the Lord on his 59th wedding anniversary April 10, 2017. David proudly served his country in the US Navy. He was a faithful member of Brookwood Baptist Church and was known as the “Cookie Man” in the nursery for 50 years. David was a postal carrier for 30 years before he retired. He served his community for 20 years in the Shreveport Auxiliary Police. David was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. David was preceded in death by his father, Rupert Dalton Lewis, mother, Maudie Ford Lewis, and brother, Rupert Dalton Lewis, Jr. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Rebecca Ruth Lewis; sons, Dr. David Lewis and wife, Kathy, Rev. Dalton Lewis and wife, Rhonda; daughter, Davida Murphy and husband, Michael; grandsons, Jim Lewis, Jonathan Lewis, Timothy Lewis, Brennen Murphy, Peyton Murphy, and Avery Murphy. Honoring David as pallbearers will be Jonathan Lewis, Brennen Murphy, Peyton Murphy, Avery Murphy, A.W. McDonald, Don Wilson, Richard Roberts, and Neal Purcell.
